Key Questions & FAQ's

Where is my filter and filter housing?
The filter and filter housing are stored in the heater unit on a new spa. There is a clip that you undo and they are stored in there.

How is the Spa assembled?
To ensure you understand how all the controls work please read the instructions provided that are clear and easy to follow. This will give you advice on the procedure for assembling your Spa. It will take just a few minutes for the initial assembly before inflation.

How long does it take for my Spa to inflate?
Place the Spa on a flat surface that is strong enough to take the weight of a filled Spa and clear of stones and sharp objects.  Connect the motor and heater system and the spa can be inflated and ready to fill with water in about 5 minutes.

How do you control the Spa temperature?
Press the heater button on the left of the control box.  A light will be displayed and remain stationary, once you reach your selected temperature (default 38°) the light will flash.

When the LCD display screen flashes you can alter the temperature by using the arrows to increase or decrease the temperature.

It is possible for the water temperature to be 1-3'C different from the temperature selected.

The water in your Spa heats to about 1 to 2°C per hour when the heating is on.  The indicator on the screen corresponds to the current water temperature.

For health and safety reasons the maximum factory settings on the heating unit are 38-40'C even though it is possible to set the temperature up to 40'C.

Important to note:
– The heater and filter will stop when the required temperature is met, but the heater light will stay on.
– When the water temperature drops below the set temperature by 2°C, the heater restarts automatically until it reaches the pre-set temperature.

How long will it take for my Spa to deflate?
Once the deflation valve has been removed completely, if you allow the spa to deflate naturally then it may take 30 minutes to lose air and be ready for repacking and storage.  For faster storage, we suggest removing the deflation valve once the spa has been emptied and completely dried.  Then fold each side of the spa inwards, pressing down to push air out of the valve.  Repeat this process by folding the back over the sides, squeezing out further air again.  Remember to screw in the inflation valve before it is stored to make sure it doesn't get lost.

When in use, what is the highest water temperature?
The Spa can heat water to 40°C, but a hot tub typical operating temperature ranges from 34-38°C.

How does the filter fit?
It is really easy to fit the filter, just screw the filter connector in line with the control module just above the hot tub floor.

Can the control panel be used without water?
There are only two times when you should use the control panel when there is no water inside the hot tub.  The first time to inflate and the second to dry the tube at the base where the bubbles are generated.  When empty just switch 'bubbling' on for 1 minute before towel drying and storing.

Can the Spa be used indoors and outdoors?
Yes, it can be used indoors as well as outdoors. Please note that great care should be taken when using the product indoors in the event of accidents and the potential damage to carpet and furnishings the supplier will not be liable for any loss or damage caused by using the product indoors.

Can you use the Spa on any surface?
The positioning of your hot tub should always be considered.  A Spa must be located on a flat, completely clear surface of stones and sharp objects.  Placed on a level surface and consideration to a surface that has the potential to burst the vinyl base.  Whilst the Spa is built from very high-quality material it can be penetrated by sharp objects causing it to lose air, water at which stage the Spa will collapse and all water will be released.  Please ensure that the supporting surface area can support the total weight of the filled spa wherever placed.  Whilst the Spa appears to be relatively light when inflated it becomes extremely heavy when filled with water.  A 4-person Spa weighs more than 800kg and the 6-person weighs more than 1 tonne.

Can the Spa be used in all-weather types?
The Spa can be used in all weather conditions, but it is recommended that you do not use during extreme weather conditions such as high winds or low temperatures as this may damage your hot tub.

Can the Spa be left in the rain?
Yes, it can, but we recommend that the control module and spa water are always covered when not in use.

Is the plug ok to be left outdoors if it begins to rain?
Only a power outlet designed for outdoor use should be plugged into your Spa.  Do not use any form of electrical extension leads as it may not be rated to the amp requirement.

How often do you need to change the filter?
The filter should be changed regularly to maintain water clarity.  However, this depends on how often the spa is used and how dirty the water has become. The duration of your Spa filter is dictated by the time your heat/filter functions are applied.  We recommend that you change your Spa filter every 168 hours (7 days) of use.  The filter should be changed every 2 weeks for weekend usage only (Fri – Sun). You may clean your filter under the cold water tap from time to time.  We do not recommend constant rotation and filter cleaning with hoses or jet washing due to water degradation and possible damage to the paper folds inside the filter.  The most important elements regarding the ongoing maintenance of your Spa are your filter and chemical use.  Both filters and chemicals can be purchased online.

How many people can my Spa accommodate?
The number of users for each product is clearly indicated.  Spa currently produces two sizes, a four-person hot tub and a six-person hot tub.

Can the Spa accommodate children?
For health and safety reasons we recommend, children under 8 years do not use our hot tubs.  Children over 8 years old can use hot tubs, however, we recommend temperature is set no higher than 37°C.  No child should be left unattended in the hot tub at any time.  For child safety, a cover should be fitted and locked when not in use to ensure there is no access when the hot tub is unattended.  A cover will also assist maintain the heat of the water in the hot tub.

Can I use the Spa if pregnant?
During pregnancy, we do not recommend using the Wave Spa. Please seek further advice from your GP.

How long does filling the hot tub take?
It usually takes about 60 minutes to fill the 4-person hot tub at standard household water pressure and 75 minutes to fill the 6-person hot tub.

How do you empty the Spa and how long does it take?
1. Remove the plug from the electrical mains.
2. Make sure the Spa floor drainage plug is in place.
3. Open the water outlet at the Spa's outer wall.
4. Pull out the plastic plug in the Spa floor from the outlet and the water will flow out.
5. If there is no water in the Spa and you need to drain the water in the air pipeline simply press the bubble function for 30 seconds.
6. Remove the inflation hose when drainage is complete and replace the drainage cap.

What if I puncture my Spa?
All Spa Inflatable Hot Tubs come with waterproof PVC repair patches.

How to apply a patch for repair:
We recommend that you apply a repair patch whilst the Spa is inflated.  If the puncture is quite large you should keep the pump on whilst making the repair before applying the patch to prevent it from deflating.  Before applying the repair patch please ensure the surface to repair is clean and dry.  We recommend using (not supplied) Loctite super glue.  Apply the glue directly to the repair patch and carefully adhere leaving it to be set for at least 30 minutes before water is refilled.

How to find a puncture on my Spa:
To help locate punctures, we recommend using water-diluted washing up liquid.  Simply wet the surface of the Spa liner and some bubbles should be visible of escaping air.

Is there anything you need to keep your Spa maintained?
The two important elements required to maintain your Spa is a filter and chemical use.  Please note that both filters and chemicals can be purchased from Wave Direct.

Can the hot tub be used by pets?
Hot tubs cannot be used by pets.

Can the heater and bubbles be used simultaneously?
No, either our heater or bubbles run separately.

What happens if I lose the keys for the cover?
Spare keys can be purchased from the Spare Parts section on the  Wave Direct website.

Is the cover water-resistant?
The cover is water-resistant but not waterproof.  Therefore, it will withstand a small amount of water with the cover being kept on, but over a period of time, it will eventually flow through especially at the seams.  Please clear visible standing water off with a soft brush when required.

How do you attach the cover?
Simply place the cover above the spa, align the buckles and start connecting around the hot tub in rotation.  After you have connected all simply tighten each one and lock with the keys provided.

How do I pack my Spa and store it?
If you have not kept the box your Spa came in then a plastic container and lid will keep your Spa safe until you're ready to use it again.  The container must be at least 700mm x 500mm x 700mm.  Before packing it away please ensure your Spa is completely dry.  The plastic skirt at the base of your hot tub with the water bubbles in should be given special attention.  Please ensure that you store in a dry environment.  Storing your Spa in humid conditions could result in mould forming on the shell of the hot tub and potentially damaging your electrics and motor that could adversely affect your warranty.

Can you leave the spa unattended while it's heating up?
You can leave Spa unattended as the heater will switch off automatically when it reaches the set temperature.  Make sure the spa  is connected to an electrical outdoor socket designed specifically to protect it from water.

Will the heater cut off at a certain temperature?
Once the set temperature is achieved the heater will cut off.

Can you use an extension lead with the Spa?
We would not recommend using an extension lead.

Is it normal that the bubbles have stopped?
The spa is designed to operate for 15 minutes and then stop for 10 minutes.  Press 'Bubbles' again after this time to restart.  This is designed to protect the pump from overworking and extend life of the spa.

How much does running a Spa cost?
The heater is 1800 Watts or 1.8KW. If the temperature of your starting water is 20°C and you want to heat it to 30°C, it would take between 8.5 and 11.3 hours to reach that temperature, if the rise is between 1.5-2.0°C per hour.  If your electrical rate is 14.5 pence per hour, multiply the KW value by the pence per hour and multiply it by the total hours – example;
14.5 x 1.8 = 0.26 x 8.5hrs = £2.22 for water heating; or 14.5 x 1.8 = 0.26 x 11.3hrs = £2.94 for water heating.
If we take an average, estimate that heating up the water in the hot tub will cost about £2.58.
The motor is 600 Watts or 0.6KW to operate the bubbles.  If you use for 1 hour, the cost is:
14.5 x 0.6 = 0.09 x 1 = £0.09 per hour
To operate the hot tub with heat on and bubbles for 1 hour:
14.5 x 2.4 = 0.35 x 1 = £0.35 per hour
The pence per KWH will change often, so please check for an updated price with your electricity provider if you need to calculate more detailed usage costs.

Is there anything I can get to protect my Spa?
Each Spa comes with a PVC groundsheet that can be used to cover the floor before placing the empty hot tub on the ground.

How many filters do I get?
To get you started, you're provided with 1 filter. The most important elements regarding the ongoing maintenance of your Spa is your filter and chemical use.  Both filters and chemicals can be purchased online at Wave Direct.

How many bubble jets are there in a Spa?
The 4-person hot tub includes about 110 bubble jets and about 130 bubble jets for the 6-person.

WATER TREATMENT
If you find seaweeds in the water of the Spa.

The sticky seaweeds are actually a bacterium caused by the result of the chemical imbalance of the Spa.

Seaweeds are a result of the natural environment (earth, ground, air) and are transported in the water of the swimming pool by the skin of the bathers, the soil, earth, rain, wind etc

The appearance of the pink coloured sea is a result of the following;

The pH of the water is too high, Not enough disinfection has been used on all the plastic parts and liners, The water conditions need more filtration

How to remove the seaweeds and spots

Reduce the pH level to less than 7.0, Scrub the walls and the base of the spa
Remove any plastic toys from the spa (toys to avoid re-contamination
- Add Chlorine Granules / Tablets
- Add Algicide
- 24 hours later, go back up (raise) the pH between 7.2 and 7.6 and adjust your rate of disinfectant
- Stop the filtration after 72 hours and clean the filter

NB: Do not bathe during this operation

During the life of the Spa it is, exposed to a lot of organic and inorganic matter caused by bathers, the atmosphere and the environment. Check the table below.

BATHERS | NATURE | ENVIRONMENT
